Tips For Making A Rented Place Feel Like Home

Renting a home is a fantastic way to get into your own place and enjoy the flexibility and freedom that comes with it. You’re not tied down to a location for too long a time, can move around much easier and don’t need to worry about the costs associated with moving. You don’t need to think about conveyancing solicitors and the moving in process can be much quicker than purchasing a house. Yet there are pitfalls to renting – most namely being the fact you can’t decorate. This can be tricky as everything might be perfect in terms of the location and size, but if you don’t like the decor, it’s hard to feel like home. In this article we take a look at some top ways you can make a rented place feel like home in no time at all.

Add your own photos and accessories to put your own stamp on it

One of the first things you can do to make a rented place feel like home is to add your own mark to it. Adding art work and photos that make you smile are a great way to do this. Add photos you’ve printed out to the walls, or why not make a gallery wall of art work you love? Add accessories such as cocktail glasses, sculptures and glass trinkets or things you’ve picked up on your travels. Make sure you get the landlord’s permission if you’re going to add any shelves to the walls, or you can use command strips to add your frames. This is a renter-friendly way to make your pictures stick without causing any damage when the time comes to move out.

Try peel and stick tiles for the wall and floor

Another great way to make your rented place feel more like yours is to add peel and stick tiles. There are a few variations of these, but essentially you peel off the back to reveal a sticky side. These can then be laid down over your existing wall or floor tiles for a refresh. Make sure you get ones that can easily be removed at the end of your tenancy.

Add in scents that make you feel happy

Smell is a super powerful element to making a home feel homey, so by adding in scents that make you happy, you’ll feel much more comfortable. Get room diffusers and room sprays, or light candles that evoke feelings that make you smile. Cost scents such as vanilla are always a great choice, but the final decision is down to you and what you find makes you feel the happiest.
These are just a few tips that can make a rented property feel like home. While a rental property might not be yours to own, there are still many things you can do that can help it feel  like yours. After all, you will be living there every day so you want to ensure it’s somewhere you look forward to being. What are some top tips you have for making a rented place feel like home?
