Protect Your Investment: How to Use On-Site Security to Defend Your Development Projects

Property development takes a long time. Constructing large buildings and skyscrapers is a time-consuming process, and chances are it’ll take several months or even years depending on the project. Your developments are vulnerable while they are being built. People can invade your property, fiddle about with different tools and building equipment, and could potentially cause delays to your project.

Instead of leaving it up to chance, it’s important to hire the help of security firms and take the necessary precautions to protect your property. Don’t let drunk hooligans and malicious people destroy your equipment and building materials. Defend your property, and protect your investment.

Utilise Barricades

Concrete barriers act as good deterrents against most curious people. They’re easy to jump over so people can still access your construction site, but they won’t be able to drive their cars in and cause a ruckus. Modular Cubed installs precast concrete barriers across the UK, and they can be used to prevent vehicles from getting into your private investment.

In addition to concrete barriers, you can also use fencing to create a border around your development project. Lined with anti-climb paint, these will deter people from climbing into your site. It won’t be protected against people that bother to bring fence cutting equipment, but it’s good enough to stop most people that want to use your construction site as a hang-out location to party at night. Of course, you still need a way for workers to get in, but the presence of a fence will mean that intruders have to be funnelled into a specific area to enter your site, which makes it easier to track them down with the next tip.

Security Cameras

CCTV is a cheap and effective way to record everything that happens on your construction site. If you are building on a large plot of land, then it can get expensive wiring up several dozen cameras to cover every nook and cranny of your property. Luckily, with the help of fencing, you can reduce the number of cameras you need by placing them at entry points to your construction site.

If you frequently develop properties then it’s a good idea to get in touch with security firms to buy sets of cameras to use for multiple projects. Otherwise, it’s best to rent them out for the duration of your build. It’s always more cost effective to buy high-end models to use for multiple developments, but it’s not needed if you don’t plan to do back-to-back investment projects.

Security Guards

Your cameras can help you track down intruders, but you won’t be able to do much if you have no one on-site to protect your building site. Cameras need guards to make use of them. You could always contact the police if you see someone on the camera monitor, but what good will it do when they’re gone by the time the police arrive?

A quick-response security guard (or team if it’s a large location) is the most effective way to track down offenders and make sure that they don’t cause trouble to your building site.
