Is Your Business Prepared For A Power Outage?

Without power, your business can’t really do anything. All of your employees are reliant on technology, so in the event of a power outage, your business will completely shut down until you can get the power on again. In some cases, this can take a long while and every minute that the power is off, you are losing money. A lot of business owners don’t really consider this danger and when it does happen, they are completely unprepared for it. However, there are some simple things that you can do to protect yourself and avoid expensive downtime. These are some of the best ways to prepare your business for a power outage and avoid big losses.

Backup Data

The most important thing that you need to do is backup your data. If all of your data is stored on local servers and it is not backed up, there is a chance that it can be corrupted by a power outage. If you do not have a backup in place, all of that data will be lost and that can be a big problem for you. Necessary information that you rely on for the day to day running of the business will be gone, and you may lose customer information as well. You will have to spend a lot of time and money getting things back to normal again, but all of that trouble can be avoided if you simply backup your data. It may be best to outsource to an IT provider and have them handle your data backups for you. That way, you can be sure that you won’t lose anything important during a power outage.

Prepare Emergency Power

Most power outages do not last that long and if you can provide the building with emergency power for an hour or two until the power comes back on, you can carry on as if nothing happened and you won’t experience any downtime at all. If you do not have an emergency power system in place, get in touch with a company like Bellwood Rewinds Limited and purchase some diesel generators. These can be kept on site and used as an emergency power backup to keep servers and computers running during a power outage. This will prevent any data loss and allow people to carry on as normal until the power comes back on.

Use Alternate Power Sources

If your building is entirely reliant on the national grid, you are vulnerable to power outages and it is predicted that they will become more common in the future as there is more pressure on the infrastructure. That’s why it’s a good idea to use alternate power sources and try to generate some of your own power. If you use wind turbines or solar panels to generate some of your power, you are not at the mercy of the national grid and you will still have power even if there is an outage. It will also save you a lot of money in reduced energy bills, so it’s a great investment.

Follow these three steps and your business will be ready for a power outage and you can keep your business up and running without any losses.
