If you run a business, you obviously want to make sure that you are looking after your people as well as you can, and this is something that you can approach in a lot of ways. One thing is to make sure that you are not harming the health of your employees, which can easily happen, especially if the office is not quite as it should be. In this post, we’ll look at some of the possible ways that your office might be harming your employees’ health. All of these are important to fix as soon as possible.
Carbon Monoxide
This is one of the most pernicious and dangerous things that you need to look out for in your office. Carbon monoxide, as you may know, is odorless and invisible, and yet extremely harmful to health. In fact, it is deadly in even small quantities. Some of the early symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning are headaches, feeling unwell, and dizziness. To avoid this problem, make sure your heating is kept up to date and serviced, and install a CO alarm in your office at regular intervals, and then test it weekly.
Poor Hygiene Practices
Sometimes an office or workplace can be harmful to health because of some poor hygiene practices, and it’s not always immediately obvious that these are happening until it’s already affecting people. For instance, you might find that the toilets are not as well looked after as possible. It’s vital that they are cleaned regularly, that you call in a drainage company when you need to, and that the space is generally kept as well as possible. Otherwise, you might find that people are not well on the whole, and the results can be disastrous.
Bad Air Quality
The quality of the air is something else that can affect people’s health, and probably more than you assume. You need to try and keep on top of this and make sure that the air quality is as good as can be. That means finding a way to keep it as clear as possible, which you can do with good ventilation, keeping windows open, and making sure that you have some plants dotted around the place too. Good air quality really will make a difference to how people feel in the workplace, so it’s essential you are thinking about this.
Mould & Damp
You might also get damp in the office from time to time. This alone can be bad for health, but especially so if you allow it to turn into mould, and especially if that becomes black mould. To avoid this, again you need to make sure that the office has good ventilation, and that it is going to be generally kept clean too. This will help ensure that you don’t get damp at all, which leads to a much more enjoyable and more hygienic office on the whole.
