How to Improve Your Posture and Back Health

It’s important to make sure that your posture and your back are kept healthy at all times. But unfortunately, it’s one of the things that so many of us overlook and only take action to fix when something goes wrong or we start experiencing back pains. We’re going to talk today about some of the things you can start doing differently to improve your posture and the health of your back in general.

Do Some Planks and Bridges

In order to maintain a healthy back, you need to make sure that you’re doing the right exercises each day. These should be exercises that strengthen core and work your back muscles. The best examples of exercises that do that are planks and bridges. They’re very simple exercises to do and they don’t require much learning. But they’re both very good for your core strength.

Get a Supportive Chair

If you’re someone who works at a computer most days, you definitely need to make sure that you have a supportive chair you can rely on each day. If your chair isn’t giving you the support you need or you’re not sitting with your back straight, you’re almost certainly going to develop posture problems later on down the line, so find a chair that really supports you.

Stand Tall with Your Shoulders Relaxed

It’s definitely wise to think more about your posture and how you’re holding yourself. When you’re standing and walking, you should do your best to stand tall and keep your shoulder back but in a relaxed fashion; your shoulders don’t need to be forced back or held in a rigid way. If you get that right and you put it into practice day after day, you’ll soon start to notice the difference.

Start Using a Standing Desk

One of the things you might want to consider doing is standing more. It’s certainly true that standing is healthy and good for us compared to sitting down all day long. That’s why many people now choose to invest in a standing desk. These allow them to work at a computer as they normally would, but they get to stand instead of sit all day.

Take Breaks to Move Around During the Day

As we’ve discussed, sitting for too long during the day is not great for you, and that’s why you should try your best to take regular breaks throughout the day. When you have a break from your work, you should make sure you make use of it by getting up off your chair and moving around. Being active and stretching your body is always a good idea. You don’t want to be static all day long.

Your posture and your back are things you should avoid ignoring for too long. When you overlook the importance of a healthy back, it does you no good at all in the long-term. That’s why it’s a good idea to make the most of the advice above and implement some of the ideas in your daily life.
