When you think about beautifying your home, chances are you think about wallpaper, flooring furniture and accessories. However the outside of your home is just as important, when you return back to your home each day you want it to look great and make you feel proud. Here are some of the ways you can go about it.
Clean The Outside
Just the simple act of cleaning and tidying outside can make so much difference. It’s free to do and requires no special skills- put away things like bicycles and shoes, rake up leaves and use a pressure washer on the floors. You can use a concrete strengthener product or even a paving sealer to make driveways and paths look their best. Give the windows and front door a clean too, without clutter and dirt you will instantly make the outside of your home look its best.
Tidy the Front Garden
Now that we’re moving through to the winter, there’s probably not a whole lot happening in the garden. However there are ways you can still make it look nice. Give the lawn a final cut for the year (on the longer winter length on your mower) and trim down any shrubs or plants that grew large over the summer and plant up some winter blooming flowers and evergreens to keep everything looking lively over the colder months.
Paint (or Replace) Your Front Door
The front door is one of the first things people see when they come to your home, so you want it to look nice and make a good impression. If it’s a solid wood door, why not sand it and paint it a pretty colour? If it’s UPVC and past its best, a shiny new door will make all the difference and could improve your home’s security too.
Paint Fences and Garage Doors
Outdoor paint is weather proof and it will last for a number of years, but it’s not indestructible. If your paint has started to fade and look worn on your fences and garage door, a quick repaint will make everything look so much better and is a relatively cheap way to improve the outside of your home.
Add Potted Plants and Hanging Baskets
A hanging basket or some plant pots either side of your front door will bring a welcoming look and pop of colour to the outside of the home. They make it look well cared for, and overall they give the impression of someone who puts effort and love into their home.
Store The Bins Away
Bins outside the home don’t look very attractive, you might not think there’s much you can do about them but actually you can get a wheelie bin shed to store them. Otherwise you could consider keeping them in an entryway or in the back garden and bring them out on bin day.
Add Lighting
Finally, some decent lighting outside of your property is practical as well as making it look nice. A motion activated floodlight means you won’t be fumbling for your keys on the doorstep in the dark and can keep burglars at bay too.
