So you think you know solar?
Ever wondered how solar energy came into our lives? Our Solar Timeline looks back at all the milestone events of the solar journey, from the first fizzle and spark to the present day.
We think you’ll be surprised to see just how long we’ve been using power from the sun: the first photovoltaic reaction was observed way back in 1839! And did you know solar panels appeared on the roof of the White House in 1977, only for President Reagan to take them down nine years later? (President Obama’s stuck them back up again).
And we’re sure you’ll be inspired by the innovative ways we’re now harnessing solar power to solve the world’s problems – from solar powered ATMs in India, to solar lights in Africa, to powering whole European natures sustainably.
It’s been an exciting history, and it’s only just begun. Take a look and let us know what you think.
